MP success for our Bee Campaign

The House of CommonsJuly 2009 - MP Success!!

After the success of the Didsbury Festival, we caught the awareness John Leech MP.  Here’s the letter I received this morning. I will respond thanking him greatly on our behalf.

Dear Sally,

I am writing to you regarding the Didsbury Village WI’s support for the Honey Bee Campaign.

Given your interest in the plight of the Honey Bees, I though I would write to you to let you know I have written a Parliamentary question regarding improving research into honey bee health.  I have also written to Jim Fitzpatrick MP, the Minister of State for DEFRA asking if there are any plans to improve this research, and I have signed an Early Day Motion (1733 Plan Bee Campaign) which calls on the Government to redouble its efforts to tackle the problem.

Further to this I have written to Manchester City Council encouraging then to use bee friendly plants in public spaces wherever possible.

I will be sure to pass on any responses I receive regarding this matter.

If I can be of any assistance, regarding this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

John Leech MP

This is by no means the end. We need to keep the pressure on – perhaps by contacting Jim Fitzpatrick MP ourselves, as well as our council.  If you would like to write to an MP or the council. the NFWI have provided hints and templates.
